Walk in Nature

July 2022

On 18th of July me and my 35 students of various ages and levels performed piano pieces inspired by nature.

The event started with my children Marijus and Salomeja performing a very famous song "Imagine" by J. Lennon arranged for 4 hands. This really helped to set a serene mood for everyone in the audience. Even though the general atmosphere and mood vas very relaxing (bird chirping in the background - little sound effect, flowers and bent grass around the piano made us all feel like we all are sitting in the meadow)  some pieces had more energetic and uplifting mood, like "The Great Sea", "Down by the Riverside", "Wild windy day", "Spring"- another well known theme by Vivaldi, arranged for 4 hands. The concert was ended traditionally by Margarita and Marijus. As always we try to end it with fiery, quick tempo pieces which requires brilliant technique and concentration- this time the best choice for that was A. Piazzolla's "Primavera Porteña"- jazzy, sensual, at the same time full of various syncopated rhythms and temperament which led to explosive applause at the end.

I was honored to adjudicate this years pianists (years 4 - 13, adults). It was delightful experience, which brought many pleasant emotions to performers, their teachers  and myself.

Winter Wonderland

December 2021

The concert took place at st. Chad's church on 20th of December. It was lovely to see full hall of people, who donated £180 at the entrance. The money was taken then to the voluntary organisation PAG|UK- they were very grateful and used it for the Christmas grotto for unprivileged children couple days after. Margarita and her students performed variety of piano pieces which were all connected by the theme "Winter Wonderland". Overall there were 36 pieces performed! The concert started with Margarita playing Minuet by Handel (arr. Kempff) which set a magical and calm mood in the audience. After that followed some famous gentle melodies performed by students - "Morning"- theme from Grieg's suite Peer Gynt, "Ice skaters" , "Snowflake Rag", "Winter Sky", "A Snowy Owl", "Winter Solstice dance" and many more pieces that captured beauty of winter. Audience was also treated with Chopin's Nocturne c sharp minor performed by Margarita's son Marijus, who is currently studying piano and composition at Chetham's school of music. Second half of the concert programme was dedicated to traditional Christmas carols performed as solo piano arrangements or duets: from sacred and calm "Away in a manger", "Silent night" , "The first Noel" to more uplifting "Carol of the bells", "Deck the halls" and other well known tunes like "Frosty the snowman", "Oh Christmas tree", "Jingle bell rock" etc. The concert was finished by Margarita's and Marijus' expressive and fiery duet "Sleigh ride duet fantasy" . The concert took place just five days before Christmas and was an amazing event full of emotions and applause. Students and their parents were very grateful for this opportunity to come together and share their talent and love for music with broader audience. The pictures were taken by Kristina Zvinakeviciute.
